Engine Room
The engine room is a classroom that was converted into a self-regulation room with the support of an occupational therapist. Students are scheduled to attend the ER throughout their week or day. They learn self-regulation vocabulary and strategies. They are asked to identify how their “engine” is running ( slow, just right, or fast). Students take part in a variety of fine and gross motor activities. Some of the activities include swings, exercise ball circuit, ladder climb, trapeze, pull up bar, and more. At the end of the period, some students take part in a cool down. This space can help students to expend excess energy, develop fine motor skills, develop gross motor skills, and learn about the importance of proprioception.
