STAATION
The STAATION room is a nurturing support centre that focuses on helping students based on their individual needs. Students are scheduled to attend the STAATION in collaboration with their teacher and STAATION staff. There is a variety of services and interventions available to students:
Check-in: Students come directly to the staation at the start of the day. They avoid the busy hallways and look at their visual schedule for the day.
Boxcar: Students work on independent work skills. They have the support of a visual work system tailored to their needs, timer and self-regulation tools. Students work for a predetermined amount of time then have a choice break.
STAATIONS: Students follow a visual schedule and take part in a variety of activities. ( small groups social-emotional lessons, listening centre, STEAM projects, fine motor task boxes, small group academic instruction, etc..
Sensory breaks: Students have scheduled sensory breaks throughout the day. They take part in small group games, fine motor or gross motor tasks.
Prevention and Emotional self-regulation: When needed the STAATION is used as a preventative space. For example, when a student is having a difficult day they may spend extra time in the STAATION to avoid a crisis. Students are given access to strategies to support them when they are frustrated, sad, etc.. such as jumping on bubble wrap, cozy corner and ripping boxes.
Alternative recess: Some students spend the standard recess time in the STAATION and go outside at an alternative time with a teacher.
Check-out: Students come to the STAATION at the end of the day with all of their things. They take part in quiet activities such as yoga, listening to a social-emotional book, etc.. Students talk with an adult about their day.
** All students are taught about the Zones of Regulation and are asked to use the visual check-in when they enter and leave the STAATION room.
